PlayBTW v3.0 Released!!!

Dear all PlayBTW players!

Happy to announce there's a new major version of Play by the Writing.

This version's focus is to enable the utilization of your user home folder, to store Play by the Writing tables and other config files for it, to increase flexibility and open up for the future, to allow user submitted tables, and other personalization settings. At this point, noticeable improvements are related to the fact that you can now customize and work on your tables without having to worry about updates or getting your custom lists (or OpenAPI key) replaced, and allowing you to have modified copies of the random tables without touching the original ones. Also, the list updaters :pull will now check for available updates before applying the update, and informing you about the changes. Finally, some Mythic and custom lists improvements are included.

And keep in mind, you're all welcome to join me and many other community Solo RPG Players in our Discord Server

Special thanks to @bytetower for reporting many bugs and suggestions, but also to all the community in general for the support!

Hi J, I'm having an issue with the MacOS version, either the bundled version or the compiled version; I'm getting the "13 error, no permissions" when Espanso tries to execute the Python scripts - the rest works fine. The files have +x permissions. Have you been given Espanso special permissions? How are you installing it? Any ideas? Thanks

Hey aestevez - I'll build tomorrow v3.0 for MacOS and try it again. But last time I checked, I did not do anything special, I just unzipped the package in the folder indicated in the readme, then launch Espanso, and that's it. No need for extra steps or permissions. Join the Discord server and we can investigate it together!

Hello aestevezj - I have now uploaded v3.00 for MacOs - and also updated the install instructions. The destination folder in the past was wrong, perhaps this was your issue?

This looks great Jeansen! Would it be possible to explain the changes a bit more in another post or video for the not so tech savvy such as myself?  Thanks. 👍🏻

Hello crinklechips! Yes, I am afraid it is a bit of a tech-savvy update. The biggest change is how and where PlayBTW stores random tables in your system while using Espanso. For typical usage, the difference isn't very noticeable, but if you are into adding or changing random tables, this update will help you a lot fiddle with files :) - it will also enable future features

I’ve dipped my toe in the water as far as creating tables are concerned.  I created a simple random weather table.  I assume this means I need to copy my table before updating as I’ll lose it?  I’m actually away from home and only have my iPad.  I ‘ll have to wait patiently to update in a week 😬.
